How does face recognition photo sharing work?
A guest submits one selfie. The platform compares that face against the faces in the event’s photos and returns the ones it thinks the guest appears in, as a personal gallery. The comparison is limited to that single event, and on any well-built platform the guest chooses to take part rather than being matched automatically.
The three stages
- Detection. Faces are located in each uploaded photo.
- Representation. Each face becomes a numeric description — not a stored picture of the face, a mathematical summary of it.
- Comparison. The guest’s selfie is turned into the same kind of description and compared against the event’s photos. Close enough matches go into that guest’s gallery.
Where it fails, honestly
Face matching is not perfect. It can miss a guest, and it can occasionally return someone else’s photo inside the right gallery. Poor lighting, faces turned away, motion blur and dense crowds all reduce accuracy. So do photos where someone appears very small in the frame.
This is why we do not lead with an accuracy percentage. Everyone in this category publishes one, they are all measured on curated academic datasets rather than on a real reception at 11pm, and none of them tells you what will happen with your photos. Run a real event free and judge it on your own.
What RSVPix does with it
- Matching is opt-in. A guest is never matched unless they choose to submit a selfie.
- Your selfie stays in this browser until you submit it.
- Face data is used to find that guest in that one event, and is not matched across events or used to build a profile.
- Every gallery opens only after signing in, and that sign-in is locked to your event. A guest cannot reach another event’s photos, and neither can anyone outside yours.
- A guest can ask for their selfie and face data to be deleted at any time.

Is my selfie stored forever?
No. You can request deletion of your selfie and the face data derived from it at any time by raising a support request from your account, and it is deleted with your account.
Can it match me across different events?
Not on RSVPix. Matching is scoped to the single event you are part of.
What if it puts someone else’s photo in my gallery?
It can happen — face matching is not perfect. Tell the host or raise a support request and it will be removed.
