Why does the camera not work when I try to take the selfie?
Two causes cover almost every case. Either the browser has camera access switched off for the site — allow it from the padlock or "AA" menu in the address bar and reload — or the link opened inside an app such as Instagram, Facebook or Messenger, whose built-in browsers never allow the camera. For the second, open the same link in Safari or Chrome and take the selfie there.
If the page opened inside another app
Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, LinkedIn and TikTok open links in their own mini browser, and none of them allow the camera. The page will tell you when this has happened.
- iPhone: tap the ··· or share icon and choose "Open in Safari".
- Android: tap the ⋮ menu and choose "Open in Chrome" (or "Open in browser").
Everything else stays the same once you are in the normal browser.
If the browser blocked the camera
- Safari on iPhone: tap "AA" or the padlock at the left of the address bar, then Website Settings, and set Camera to Allow. If you tapped "Don't Allow" earlier, go to Settings → Safari → Camera and choose Ask or Allow, then reload.
- Chrome on Android: tap the padlock, then Permissions, and allow Camera. If no prompt ever appears, open Settings → Apps → Chrome → Permissions → Camera.
- A laptop: click the camera icon or padlock in the address bar and allow it, then check the operating system's camera privacy setting lets the browser use the camera.
If it says no camera was found, or the camera is busy
Close any video call or camera app that is open — a browser cannot share a camera that another app is holding — then reload. On a phone, try the camera switch button to use the back camera. You can also open the same link on another device.
What the selfie is for
Your guests scan the QR code, enter an email address and accept the terms, collect a four-digit code from their inbox, give a first name, last name and country, allow the camera, wait for the on-screen guide to load, and take one selfie. The selfie is used only to find you in that event's photos; nothing is recorded, and it is deleted with the gallery.

Questions people ask
Does the camera need to be the front one?
No. Either works; the front camera is simply easier to aim.
Will good light matter?
Yes. Face a window or a lamp rather than having one behind you.
